ZEN

DEN

Finding the key inside self to rise above desire and suffering to achieve an inner peace.

A place or shelter used for relaxation, help, comfort and protection in times of hardship.

MISSION

A safe space to find relief, insight and inspiration through the use of art.

The Zen Den space educates and strives to allow students to find the mind, body and spiritual harmony they need to be healthy. Sometimes the simple act of being heard and seen is enough to allow one to continue the desire to move forward.

The Zen Den is an art-based multisensory space initially created as a safe de-escalation space for students with Emotional and Behavioral Disorders. The spaced was designed based on research to allow students to use art to calm themselves through self-expression in order to refocus on their academic goals.

The Zen Den is filled with the diffused aroma of lavender, soft meditative music and offers a variety of therapeutic art materials to calm and allow for self-expressionism. There are also rocking chairs and a fish tank in the den along with reading materials, games and puzzles.

The Zen Den is now accessible to all students and staff and is encouraged to be used when one needs time and a space to recharge and refocus. The space is also used as a quiet study area for students that prefer smaller class or have intense anxiety.
